Rodri's Injury Could Prove Costly Ahead of Atlético Showdown

Rodri’s hamstring knock is the kind of news that tightens a title race. The midfielder, struck on the biceps femoris of his right leg, faces an uphill battle to be fit for Sunday’s clash with Atlético de Madrid, and this is no ordinary fixture. It is the sort of match where the table gets rewritten, where a single midfield pivot can decide who controls the tempo and who spends ninety minutes chasing shadows.

Hansi Flick, though, is not raising the white flag. The coach is banking on the return of Eric, Christensen and Koundé, a trio whose availability would give him defensive depth at a moment when the squad can least afford gaps. Yet depth at the back does not replace a midfielder who dictates rhythm, wins the second ball and shields the defence when opponents press high. Without that anchor, the side risks becoming stretched, and Atlético have built a reputation on punishing exactly that kind of space.

For the league leaders, every point dropped in these weeks is a point the chasers will happily pocket. Atlético know a result here would drag them back into the conversation, and the rest of the pack is watching closely. Rodri’s fitness is not just a squad update. It is a potential turning point in the race for the title, and the fans in the stands will feel it long before the final whistle.
